An Unconventional Interpretation to "The Meaning of Life"

You might be surprised to find out my personal discoveries.

“What is the meaning of life to you?”

I read that text from my 18 year old cousin after opening the doors to my flat after a 2.5 training session. On the surface layer, it’s a simple question that billions throughout history have contemplated and yet… the depths of information contained surpasses the depth of the ocean’s abyss [we know more about outer space than the ocean sea to put that into perspective].

Instead of writing a vague reply.

I insist on investing my morning to reflect on my accumulated life experiences to help uncover life’s secrets hidden within my subconscious mind.

This article is for you - If you’re someone that:

  • recently entered the adult “real world” for the first time

  • is stuck in the day to day rat race [and feels there must be more to life]

  • experienced peak experiences and still wonder “is this it?”

These golden nuggets that have been tested, refined and actually work.

Not only in my life, but the hundreds of other lives I’ve observed and gotten to know from all around the world.

WHO’S PERCEPTIVE EXACTLY

It is not in my nature nor culture to boast about myself in an egotistical way, but it is necessary to share this to help you better understand where the source of information is filtered through.

I have read countless of dense books on subjects that are very complex to grasp [philosophy, psychology, metaphysics, meditation and other personal development related sub-niches] and still religiously doing so after a decade of avid reading.

Combine that with a lifestyle design that consist of living in foreign cultures across the globe for a dozen years of consistent travels.

As you can imagine you meet a vast combination of perspectives, cultural upbringings, a wide range of diverse interests and yet still be able to develop complementary and compatible view points.

In addition, a vital skillset that is absolutely essential in today’s exponentially evolving technology age:

Extremely nuance communication skills to read social cues as close to accurate as possible [through the lens of the timeless wisdom contained within those invaluable books].

Finally, a level of mindfulness that surpasses the masses perspective - I share this quote below from a friend that commented on my level of understanding.

“Monks have studied meditation for nearly their entire lives and still have not reached that level of awareness that you experienced first hand.“

There are other critical pieces to my Being that I’ll briefly mention as I do not want to continue this section for to long:

  • A tendency to not only question authority, but will single handled push the boundaries to find new discoveries

  • The relentless drive to shamelessly find out who exactly who is my true authentic self

  • Possess a freaky level of calm in life situations where others would panic and freak out

  • I only have real relationships and have a zero tolerance for fake connections no matter the “consequences”

Okay now that’s FINALLY over… let’s get into the good stuff shall we?

YOUR EXISTENCE IS INDIVIDUALITY

In many ways you are not a special snowflake.

However, in many other ways, you are an extremely special snowflake.

Let me explain.

You are yet another human being alive today amongst nearly eight billion people here on planet earth.

Consider the the historic timeline of every one that was alive before you and the amount of souls that have not been created yet.

Now examine your finger print and realize that yours and mine will never ever exist again in history.

1 of 1,000,000,000,000s = that’s a 0.00000000001% chances that someone exactly like you will be born again on the historic timeline.

With all this in mind:

Would it not be accurate to say that you were born for some reason?

I mean after all connecting meaning with the fact of being alive would make your life experience that much more enjoyable compared to living a life without meaning and purpose.

Anyone that has ever pondered “what’s the meaning of my life” knows how agonizing this experience is.

Which leads me to one of the best tools ever invented that I truly believe gets you in direct contact with your “soul”…

Curiosity

Following your natural curiosity leads you to interests that your mind reaches the point of obsession.

When you are immersed in your [insert subject of curiosity] the way you experience time compared to a day to day bases alters in a way that becomes extremely difficult to describe into words.

This is called the “flow” state of mind.

FLOW REVEALS TIME IS AN ILLUSION

The past always leaves clues…

Ever been so heavily immersed in an activity that “time went by so fast”?

[Think back to your childhood experience before responsibilities side tracked you to better identify your flow activities/interests]

Then consider the different experiences during those times when time feels so slow to the point of insanity.

[Activities so mind numbing boring like waiting in the doctor’s waiting room.]

Without getting side tracked on explain how and why time is an illusion here’s a quote from one of the most brilliant minds ever created in history…

"Now he has departed from this strange world a little ahead of me. That means nothing. People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present, and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion."

Albert Einstein

Thought experiment:

Consider “flow state” as the ultimate human experience, you would allow your curiosity guide you to what life has to offer that would align with your individuality.

Assuming you already realize and understand the importance of having a holistic approach towards life i.e. health, wealth, social, happiness are all in order and not chaotic.

You then would realize that your “time” [specially how you manage your schedule] must be divided into different essential life areas that require ongoing improvement then maintenance [combined with strategic ratios depending on your phase of life].

My personal opinion: the ultimate #1 goal of life is to live in a way that transcends time via the eternal flow state.

It’s extremely important to gain life experience [outside of being told what to do] to even breach the surface of answering “who am I?” question that constantly lingers in society’s mind.

THE PROBLEM SOLVING MIND

Human beings were evolved and designed to survive [and reproduce] to ensure civilization is secured [amongst the harshest living conditions where dangerous predators linger with the same survival biological drives].

With this unique ability of consciousness [apart from great apes, dolphins, whales, elephants, corvids, octopuses] humans thrived as you can see around you today.

However, with this same tendency of problem solving, there needs to be an end result and dissatisfaction ensues until that happens.

Unfortunately I’m sure there has been a significant number of lying on their death beds [unable to move nor distract themselves] that end up suffering from this very problem [only to find out the “answer” when time has run out then endure the “spiritual” torment that ensues…]

What does my research reveal?

The answer was lying right in front of them the entire time… it was only until time ran out did they realize it.

Look.

If we examine common knowledge about humanity. We are obsessed with the end result. We will go to such extremely lengths to ensure that the desired outcome becomes actualized and die trying.

What exactly is the end destination for every living individual?

Death.

So why is everyone rushing to reach the inevitable end destination?

Success always leaves clues if you look closely enough.

And this is precisely why you hear:

“The journey is the destination“

Consider this instead of being brainwashed to the point where you single handedly allowed your entire life to flash before your very eyes.

Maybe life’s not about an equation [X + Y + Z = “this must be it”]

Instead life is nothing but an infinity sign ∞ that has no end, but to savor every moment while it does last before moving onto the next or even worst it [your life] ends before you actually got to enjoy it.

Maybe the key is…

Enjoy the flow of time

See ya on the mats,
